FRAS (Flyright Airsport) has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1997 by Capt. Gurcharan Singh and his wife in Mersing, Malaysia. Originally known as FRAS Flying Club Johor, the organization began its operations with a focus on various aviation activities including static line parachuting, freefall parachuting, tandem parachuting, microlight aircraft building and flight training, as well as experimental aircraft building and flight training.
Over the years, FRAS expanded its operations and in 2001, it relocated to Senai International Airport in Johor, Malaysia. At this new location, FRAS began offering light sport aircraft flight training using the Aero AT-4 LSA, as well as private pilot flight training utilizing Cessna 172 and Piper PA28-161 aircraft.
In 2014, FRAS made a significant milestone by establishing the first Young Aviators program in Asia, catering to individuals aged 8 to 16 years old. This program has been recognized as one of the best in the region, fostering a new generation of aviation enthusiasts.
One of FRAS's notable achievements is being the only flying club approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) as an Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO), Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO), and Airworthiness Review Staff (ARS). This recognition underscores FRAS's commitment to safety and adherence to regulatory standards.
Capt. Gurcharan Singh, a seasoned aviator with 5000 flying hours, possesses extensive experience across various facets of aviation including backpack parachuting, microlight aircraft, experimental aircraft, light sport aircraft, and general aviation aircraft. He holds several crucial positions within FRAS including Flight Examiner, Chief Flying Instructor, Head of Training, Accountable Manager Flight Operation, Accountable Manager Airworthiness Operation, and Aircraft Airworthiness Review Inspector.
In 2022, Capt. Gurcharan Singh's brother, Capt. Ranjit Singh, assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of FRAS, while Capt. Gurcharan Singh transitioned to the position of Chief Operating Officer, marking a new chapter in the organization's leadership. Throughout its journey, FRAS has played a pivotal role in training and issuing private pilot licenses to over 600 Singaporeans, some of whom have pursued careers in the airline industry, thus contributing to the growth and development of aviation in the region.
